The IncrEDIBLE Food Show

For a few hours yesterday, Lexington was the place to be for foodies!  The fourth Annual Kentucky Proud Incredible Food Show brought together a bevy of food producers and purveyors, each one putting their best foot forward in celebration of all things culinary in our beautiful Bluegrass state.  It was my first time attending and I had no idea what to expect.  The scent of sizzling pork hung lightly in the air as soon as we set foot in the vast exhibition space.  ‘Doesn’t the goetta smell wonderful?’ commented a passer-by.  Goetta?  And so began our afternoon of experiencing.  We tried a number of different beer cheeses, homemade pasta sauces, salsas, sausages and of course goetta from Glier’s, our nose leading us there almost immediately.  We stopped by the Salt Rox booth (see my favorite salt rox recipe here) sampled a variety of Kentucky wines, popped in on a great Apple Pie demonstration by Megan Smith of The Art of Homemaking, and picked up several goodies including cinnamon raisin granola from Sweetgrass Granola, some ‘hot brown’ dog treats for Nick from the Bluegrass Barkery, and country ham from Brownings.  After two hours of touring we had only begun to scratch the surface of the activities, live cooking demos and ‘quick tip’ stops offered.  It was a fantastic way to spend a Saturday and I can’t wait to see what the folks of Kentucky Proud have in store for 2013.  Thanks for reminding us all what an incrEDIBLE foodie place Kentucky truly is!
